DoKKu@FeKK – International Documentary Film Workshop

12–23 August | Ljubljana, Slovenia

Create a documentary film while exploring innovative approaches to documentary film education.

DoKKu@FeKK is an intensive international documentary filmmaking and training-for-trainers workshop designed for young filmmakers, film educators, youth workers, and cultural practitioners (18–30) who have already made their first films or gained practical filmmaking experience. Besides developing their documentary filmmaking skills, participants will also have the opportunity to explore DoKKu’s educational methodology and mentoring approach, gaining practical insights they can later adapt and apply in film workshops and educational activities within their own communities.

Over the course of twelve days, participants will work in small international teams to develop original documentary ideas, research stories, shoot on location across Ljubljana, and edit a short documentary film—from concept to final public screening.

Throughout the workshop, participants receive individual mentoring from Marina Gumzi, screenwriter and producer of internationally awarded films, documentary filmmaker Boris Petkovič, cinematographer Tadej Pernuš, and editor Rožana Švara. Their guidance supports every stage of the filmmaking process while encouraging participants to develop their own cinematic language and artistic voice, while also introducing them to DoKKu’s educational approach to mentoring emerging filmmakers.

Hosted during the FeKK Ljubljana Short Film Festival, the workshop offers a unique opportunity to experience an international film festival from the inside. Participants will optionally attend film screenings, Q&A sessions, industry events, and discussions with filmmakers from around the world while developing their own projects.

The workshop encourages participants to explore contemporary social issues, personal perspectives, and stories that deserve greater public attention. We welcome filmmakers who are curious, socially engaged, and eager to experiment with documentary as a creative and critical medium.

The completed films will premiere at a public screening during the workshop and will later be presented at festivals, community screenings, and online platforms.

Over the years, DoKKu has brought together emerging filmmakers from across Europe, many of whom have continued developing their careers in documentary filmmaking while building lasting international collaborations and professional networks.

The workshop is co-funded by the European Union, making participation free of charge for selected participants. Accommodation, meals and, where applicable, travel support are covered by the project.

Beyond filmmaking, DoKKu@FeKK offers an inspiring international environment where participants exchange ideas, share their previous work, and become part of the vibrant community gathered around the FeKK Ljubljana Short Film Festival.

If you are ready to challenge yourself, collaborate with other emerging filmmakers, explore new approaches to film education, and create a documentary film with the support of experienced mentors, DoKKu@FeKK is the workshop for you.
