OPEN CALL: JOIN THE EXHIBITION – LUKSUZ FILM FESTIVAL ‘24
The Luksuz Film Festival returns for its 24th edition, continuing its mission to support independent artists from around the world whose work challenges dominant narratives and explores alternative ways of representing reality.
Alongside the film screenings, this year’s Festival will feature a collective exhibition bringing together artists whose multidisciplinary and unconventional practices move across different media and fields of knowledge.
This year the exhibition focuses on the theme of the Illegal City, approaching the city as a space that should be constantly reclaimed, reinvented and reimagined beyond the structures of capitalist control and urban surveillance. Therefore we are inviting artists to submit works that engage with this theme, exploring different ways of escaping the planned, mapped, regulated and controlled urban environment while continuing to live, resist and experience life within its boundaries. Drawing inspiration from occupied buildings and streets, temporary gatherings, informal communities and underground cultures, we are interested in different ways of inhabiting the city that challenge its intended functions and open up alternative possibilities.
Given this exhibition’s dissident and rebellious spirit we welcome works that employ any kind of artistic medium, including photography, painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, video, film, sound, performance, textiles, digital and experimental art, as well as other forms of artistic expression. Additionally, we are particularly interested in works that engage with the exhibition space in innovative and unexpected ways, opening up a dialogue with the history and architectural features of Kulturni dom in Krško, a multipurpose cultural centre in Slovenia inaugurated in 1977, during the period of socialist Yugoslavia, where the exhibition will take place (pictures attached below).
If your work resonates with this research, we invite you to join the City Safari.
