23rd LUKSUZ FILM FESTIVAL, JANUARY 23-25, 2026, KRŠKO, SLOVENIA
The international selection for the 23rd edition of the Luksuz Film Festival will focus on stories of ongoing struggles for liberation across the globe,
with particular attention to supporting the narratives of local directors from regions actively engaged in these fights.
The program aims to highlight cinema as a powerful communication tool, accessible and understandable to everyone, bringing political and social discussions out of exclusive academies and television news, and back to the streets and independent cultural spaces. In particular, the Festival aims to showcase short-term, low-budget alternative films, especially by younger authors (up to 30 years old), produced within non-commercial and non-institutional contexts, giving visibility to works that usually find no space within mainstream media distribution.
Founded in 1997, Luksuz Produkcija is an independent Slovenian production house that supports young filmmakers from around the world, promoting grassroots voices that challenge dominant narratives.
Luksuz Film Festival thinks globally but acts locally: all 22 editions have taken place in the Krško region, home of Luksuz Produkcija, creating a cultural space with a global outlook without relocating to a major city. This approach allows the development of a more decentralized and peripheral perspective.
RULES AND TERMS
There are no restrictions on film genres. Documentary, feature, experimental or animated short films should first of all be characterised by an unbridled, free and belonging spirit, which in one way or another eliminates a set of constructed social, religious, cultural, ethnic, political, intergenerational and, of course, expressive barriers.
This year, LUKSUZ FILM FESTIVAL offers an opportunity to apply to young filmmakers – for authors up to 30 years old.
(We accept films up to 20 minutes long.) Preference will be given to films completed in 2024 or 2025.
There is no limit to the number of entries from one creator, but they must be submitted separately.
By registering for the festival, applicants agree to public broadcasting at the festival and for the purposes of festival promotion.
At the same time, they declare that they have all rights to the AV material used.
