Portrait Documentary Workshop – Webinar

The Documentary Film Workshop is intended for anyone interested in expressing moving images in the medium. Basic filming and editing skills are desirable. The workshop will take place online, covering both works: theoretical and practical.

The workshop will be led by Boris Petković.

In the theoretical part, we will shed light on some history of documentary, process different approaches, and finally process the documentary portrait (also self-portrait, portrait-essay) as a special form of expression. In addition, we will also focus on the basics of dramaturgy and screenwriting, especially the structure of the character (definition, types, characterization, components).

The practical part will include exercises that the students will do according to the instructions of the mentor themselves, and then analyze them together in an online session:

* Photo-comic * Movement study * Self-portrait / essay

Within the analysis, we will also touch on montage laws with an emphasis on dramaturgy and visual narration.

The final product will be a documentary portrait of up to 5 minutes in length.
